What were your favorite toys or games when you were a child?

I remember one year for my birthday I got an Etch-a-Sketch. I played with that by the hour!
Another favorite toy, although really not a "toy", was our family tape recorder. I used that more than anyone else. I would record myself (or my siblings) reading stories, making up stories, singing, or just chattering away. Over the years, here and there, my parents have found several of those tapes and when we listen to them we all have a great time laughing.
Recently my Dad called and left me a message. He didn't say anything, just played a portion of the cassette that he had just found. I have to say, it brought tears to my eyes. Those were wonderful days in my childhood and are very cherished memories. It's fun to hear them again.

  1. My son had those tapes and he loved playing them on his special tape player. Alot of them went with books.

  6. Yup, the tape recorder was good for hours of entertainment in the days before camcorders and personal voice recorders and such.

Thanks for the memory. I need to dig that tape out...
